Photographs
(1907-1995)
The photographs make up the fourth series of sub-group one in the Department of Film and Video Archive. In it you will find film and video stills, promotional packets, and one-sheets circulated by filmmakers, film venues, and film distributors in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. You will also find negatives (polyester; 35mm, 4x5, and 8x10) and prints of screening events and workshops hosted by Carnegie Museum of Art that feature film, video, and performance artists such as James Broughton, Hollis Frampton, and Joan Jonas. The vast majority of these images are black and white, and were taken as work-for-hire by photographers like Robert Haller and Mike Chikiris. The series is divided into smaller groupings (sub-series) to help you find items of interest. These are 1) Files of portrait and event images and 2) Files of publicity stills. The files were kept in their original order and are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the artist.
