Artist files
(1926-2009)
The artist files make up the third series of sub-group one in the Department of Film and Video Archive. In it you will find all of the artist files maintained by the department, which the museum’s curators referred to for programming and screening ideas, as well as biographical information for synopses, articles, and program notes. You will also find letters exchanged between museum staff and myriad artists, especially between film curator Sally Dixon and many of the artists who visited Carnegie Museum of Art in the 1970s, including Stan Brakhage, James Broughton, Hollis Frampton, Roger Jacoby, Yvonne Rainer, and Carolee Schneemann . The series is divided into smaller groupings (sub-series) to help you find items of interest. These are 1) Files for artists with accessioned artworks, and 2) Files for artists without accessioned artworks. The files were kept in their original order and are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the artist.
