GRANTS
National Endowment for the Arts. Two major grants—one for a film based on American Sign Language and innovative uses of color and black and white photographic chemistry; the other for a film using creative experimental processes in the development. Film exhibited at Anthology Film Archives, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and other media centers throughout the U.S. and Great Britain.
Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Film Fellowship for the creation of a work of art. Bush Foundation. Subsidy to make a film; distribution/exhibition throughout the U.S. Jerome Foundation. Film grant; work distributed throughout the U.S.
TEACHING
Instructor. Film in the Cities Media Center—designed and taught courses on innovative uses of film chemistry (color and black and white); also designed a film lab using donated equipment including a contact printer and film processor.
Instructor. Pittsburgh Filmmakers' Workshop—adjunct instructor to University of Pittsburgh. Taught creative uses of film chemistry, introduction to film and photographic chemistry, and students' development of a personal style.
Instructor. San Francisco Art Institute—Master Classes for Malcolm La Grice and James Broughton; Film Funnel Toronto; University of Maryland.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Assistant to Executive Director. Pittsburgh Filmmakers'—responsible for all aspects of operation, e.g., equipment access and allocation, training, reception and membership.
Gallery Assistant. Rose Fried Gallery, New York City—showing and discussion of major works of art to clients with international reputations including Edward Albee, Marcel Duchamp, Greta Garbo, and others.
WORK IN DEAFNESS
Relay Operations. Community Service Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Instructed deaf and hearing clients in use and protocol of teletypewriter, and differences between deaf and hearing cultures; assisted in relaying calls between clients.
Tutor. Seattle Central Community College Program for the Deaf.
Interpreter Trainee. New York Interpreters for the Deaf Inc.
Interpreter. Volunteer, Washington State Deaf Blind Citizens; fundraising comm. member.
