Yvonne Rainer in person.
Yvonne Rainer has produced one of the most distinguished bodies of work in contemporary film. Trained as a modern dancer, Rainer began to choreograph and was one of the founders of the Judson Dance Theater in the early 1960s. Her filmmaking then developed out of mixed-media performances. All of her films are notable for their disjunctive combination of audio and visual scenarios that deal with issues of narrative, the public and private self, and relations between men and women. They have been internationally acclaimed and shown in festivals at Cannes, Berlin, Montreaux, Toronto, and New York. Her most recent film, Privilege. was featured in the 1990 New York Film Festival.
Yvonne Rainer will be present to discuss her films on March 14.
